We need your help to make 2009 a success for the IEEE EMC Chapter in Huntsville. We have exciting news, the EMC will hold the annual Board of Directors meeting in Huntsville in November 2009. IEEE EMC President Elya B. Joffe notified us last month
that the EMC Society has chosen to hold its November, 2009, Board of Directors meeting series in Huntsville. The dates of the meeting series are: November, 12-14, 2009, as follows:
- November 12: Standards Committees' Meetings and EMCS Executive Committee (ExCom) meeting
- November 13: Board of Directors meetings
- November 14: SDtrategic Planning meeting
Typically, we as the Board of Directors, plan sponsoring and attending a meeting of the local IEEE EMC Chapter at locations of our meetings, and thus I hope that we can take this opportunity to sponsor and attend a Chapter meeting in Huntsville, as well. This advance notice is intended to allow sufficiently early coordination of the meeting.
The EMCS BoD meetings are all open to all members of the Society (except ExCom) and I invite any one who wishes to attend to join us and take an active part in the meetings and proceedings of the Board, and committees and the strategic planning sessions.

IEEE EMC Huntsville Chapter Technical Meeting
Thursday April 16, 2009 at 5:30 p.m.
Speaker:
Mr. Henry Ott, Henry Ott Consultants, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer
“Dipoles For Dummies”
Meeting Location:
ADTRAN East Tower Conference Center
The Huntsville chapter of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society invites you to attend a technical meeting on April 16, 2009. The program will begin at 5:30 pm with a free catered meal. Mr. Henry Ott’s presentation will begin at approximately 6:20 pm after a short chapter update, and will last approximately one hour.
This presentation will host a simple, insightful, and intuitive discussion of how a dipole antenna works, and how the operation is related to the common-mode radiation from a product. Once the antenna theory is understood, controlling the common-mode radiation becomes a lot easier task.
Attendees will end up with a better understanding of dipole antenna theory, and know why understanding a dipole antenna is so important to EMC engineering. All of this is accomplished without using mathematics or writing a single equation. I’m sure this dissertation would make my old college Electromagnetic Fields professor roll over in his grave. |
