While the Hollywood Walk of Stars is a long way off for radio frequency identification technology, RFID, as it is known, is certainly gaining much attention and recognition around Capitol Hill. This week, with a little help behind the scenes from IEEE-USA, the Senate RFID Caucus was kicked off with bipartisan support July 13. Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and John Cornyn (R-TX) joined forces to launch the Caucus. After IEEE-USA released a white paper on RFID in December 2005, the IEEE-USA Board of Directors approved their first position statement related to RFID,Developing National Policies on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology (available at www.ieeeusa.org).
To further educate and inform on RFID technology and the many related issues, IEEE-USA plans to organize at least one Senate RFID Caucus meeting in the near future, and is taking the lead in the first-time-ever IEEE RFID 2007 Conference tentatively planned for March in the
