Albuquerque, New Mexico

Host Utility is Public Service of New Mexico, website at http://www.esmoconference.com/.

Today's electric utility industry, and in particular its power-delivery segment, is most interested in reestablishing a back-to-basics approach which will allow utilities to rediscover their mission to provide inexpensive reliable power.

A new era of productivity and operating efficiency has begun. To meet the increased demands of an ever-changing customer base, rapid improvements are being made in electric utility operations, construction and maintenance.

With this renewed focus, utilities are again searching for the proper tools, training and techniques to maintain lines. In today's electric utility world electric utility professionals confront hectic times with uncertain budgets. Too often, electric utility operating professionals are confronted with the situation that new lines can't keep pace with load growth and taking a line or piece of equipment out of service to perform maintenance or make repairs is more difficult than ever before.

Next year, (October 15-19, 2006) utility professionals from more than 50 countries will arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the IEEE Power Engineering Society's 11th International Conference on Transmission and Distribution Construction, Operations and Live-Line Maintenance (ESMO 2006). ESMO carries the theme: The Power is in Your Hands.

Unique in its scope, ESMO 2006 is the world's largest event that is committed to the practical hands-on aspects of construction, operation, maintenance and safety of overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines, including substations. The outdoor exhibit and demonstration area sets ESMO apart from other events in the industry.

The conference program spans four days, featuring two days of outdoor field demonstrations/exhibits and a two-day technical program combined with an indoor exhibit area.

Through individual paper sessions and group panel discussions, the ESMO 2006 technical program, will examine new methods and procedures designed to build, maintain and operate the power-delivery system at optimum levels. Organized by leading industry experts, the ESMO 2006 technical program promises to be the best to date.

Public Service of New Mexico (PNM) is hosting the conference and exposition and will locate all of the outdoor demonstrations associated with the event at its substation facilities in the Albuquerque area. Indoor exhibits and displays will be located at the Albuquerque Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque.

The outdoor site will feature transmission and distribution lines, energized substation facilities, including power transformers. The outdoor portion of the event features live-line demonstrations, construction techniques, safety demonstrations, operations activities, right-of-way management techniques and equipment, and a heavy equipment area.

Individuals involved in the design, construction, operation and maintenance and safety of T&D facilities should plan to attend. Organizations represented at past conferences include investor owned utilities, municipal electric utilities, rural electric and other electric cooperatives, federal power agencies, publicly owned electric utilities, consulting engineering companies, wholesalers and distributors of electric utility equipment, manufacturers, state and federal regulatory agencies and commissions, trade associations, universities and research facilities.

Technical tours, spouse/companion programs and social events are also planned over the course of the four-day event. Tour information will be available within the next 60 days.
