Computer Society (CS)
Daniel Chang , CS Chair

UAH Researcher Danny Hardin spoke on his work with the Global Hydrology Resource Center at the National Space Science and Technology Center in Huntsville at this month’s Computer Society meeting on July 11th.

Mesoamerica comprises seven Central American countries and the five southernmost states of Mexico and contains some of the world’s richest biological regions. The region encompasses approximately eight percent of the planet’s biodiversity. Human influence and natural disasters alike threaten the rich biological, ecological, and cultural diversity of this region. Illegal logging and slash and burn agriculture contribute to extensive deforestation. Earthquakes, volcanoes, drought, and severe storms regularly threaten the region.

Danny presented an overview of SERVIR, including Mesoamerica background. He discussed the data products derived from NASA’s Earth observation satellites and ground based sensors and described the information system developed for information delivery throughout the region.

Our chapter meetings charge no admission and are open to the public. If you have any questions about the Computer Society or planned meeting, please contact Daniel Chang at 963-8620 or daniel.chang@adtran.com or email Bob Robinson at robert.a.robinson5@ieee.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
