Jim Anderson Retires
By: Ronald D. Hackett, PE
Anyone who has been involved in IEEE Huntsville activities knows Jim Anderson. He has been a pillar of our technical community, serving in many capacities over many years. Jim retired from his job at Wyle Laboratories last month, and moved away from the Huntsville technical community. I can hardly imagine an Executive Committee meeting without Jim. Jim was always a significant contributor to the proceedings, and he had a reputation of being the first to second a motion.
Jim graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 1962. He came to Huntsville in January 1982 to work for Wyle Laboratories, where he supported the commercial nuclear power industry for 23 years. Jim is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has been a member since 1972. He has been active in the Nuclear Power Standards area since joining, and he is a long time member of the Computer Society and the Power Engineering Society.
Over the years, Jim has served the Huntsville Section in many capacities. He is a past Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, and has volunteered to serve as the Chair of the History and Communications Committees. He was the 2002 AUTOTESTCON Finance Director, which contributed significantly to the Section's strong financial position. Jim ran the Section, HunTEC and Computer Fair websites, and also served as the editor of the Livewire. Jim was also active in the Computer Society and served the local chapter as the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary.
The Huntsville Association of Technical Societies (HATS) has also benefited from Jim's service over the last seven years. He served one term as Finance Director and four terms as Treasurer. Jim finished his career on a high note as the Financial Director of the very successful HATS TEAMS week 2005.
Jim received many awards over the years for his service. Most recently, he received a 10-year service award from IEEE. He was recognized as the HATS Professional of the Year twice during his distinguished career, and he received an Outstanding Service award from the IEEE.

The IEEE Huntsville Section Recognizes James Anderson for his Years of Significant Contributions, April 2005
Jim Anderson met his wife Carol in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and they have been married since 1963. They have four grown children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson. In addition to his many contributions to the Huntsville technical community, he has been active in his church. Jim's hobby was volunteering. Jim was a constant the Huntsville technical community could depend upon. Jim and Carol moved to Hollis, New Hampshire on 28 April 2005 to be closer to their grandchildren. We wish Jim and Carol a long and happy retirement. He will be greatly missed.
