Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately, James Anderson is leaving the Huntsville Section to move to New Hampshire. Jim has been an inspiration to ExCom through his hard work and dedication. We will all miss him and the Section that gets him will be very fortunate. Please see the article highlighting Jim’s career with the IEEE.

April was a very active month for the Section. The Educational Activities Committee participated in the Alabama Council for Technology in Education (ACTE) and Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF). The Section was a Category Level Sponsor for the ASEF this year as well. The UAH Students took Second Place at the SoutheastCon 05 Hardware Competition in early April. The Section’s proposal for SoutheastCon 2008 was approved with Huntsville as the approved site. Also, please visit the UAH Professional Development link to see the excellent programs they have.

The Educational Activities Chair, Frank Parris, has been busy over the past few months with all of the spring activities. ASEF and ACTE are highlighted this month. Frank is going to represent the Huntsville Section in a training section in July for the Teacher In-Service Program that has been developed within Region 3. We look forward to learning more about that program when he returns. I am sure he will be looking for volunteers to help develop the program locally.

Also, please congratulate our UAH students on their success at SoutheastCon this year. They worked very hard to get there in a very challenging competition. I was fortunate to witness a couple of their competitions and the final one at the Banquet. Mississippi State University (MSU) took First Place.

The proposal to host SoutheastCon 2008 in Huntsville was accepted on April 10, and we are working quickly to get started planning for the event.

The IEEE Huntsville Section was a proud Category level sponsor of the 2005 ASEF in addition to our usual special awards. ASEF presented us with the following plaque for our contributions:
