World Year of Physics Conference
April 5-7
Von Braun Center

You are invited to participate in the upcoming World Year of Physics Conference, “Physics for the Third Millennium:II,” to be held at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, April 5 thru 7, 2005. Sponsored by NASA/MSFC Science Directorate, US Army/AMRDEC, US Army/SMDC, UAH Physics Department, and The American Physical Society, APS, the 3 day event will feature 2 days of invited papers and a third day of student and teacher education and outreach events.

The invited papers will cover select topics constituting open issues in the world of physics and astrophysics. Issues in quantum mechanics, high energy and high temperature astrophysics, General and Special Relativity, neutrino physics, and others will be explored with the intent to understand where physics is today and might be 30 to 50 years from now. Also included will be a special topic area, “Where Physics and Biology Meet,” which will explore the cutting edge relationship between the two sciences in the areas of life, human space exploration, and new technologies. A total of 12 invited papers will be presented including two by Nobel Physics Laureates, Leon Lederman and Riccardo Giacconi..

The third day will focus on issues in science and physics education and will feature opportunities for our speakers to interact with science teachers and students. Activities planned for the day include a poster session, a luncheon with a keynote address, a panel discussion to discuss careers in physics and related fields, and a Hands-On Demonstrations Expo. The Expo will feature physics and physical science demonstrations and activities set up in the exhibit hall. Attendees will be able to walk through the hall and participate in the demonstrations and activities. Handouts will be provided so participants can recreate the activity at home or in the classroom.

For more information, please visit the event website, http://www.wyp-ptm.org. Attendance is limited and advanced registration is required. Reduced fees are in effect for early registration and payment (prior to March 15, 2005).
