A Historical Introduction to UWB Antennas
Dr. Hans Schantz, Next-RF, Inc., Huntsville, AL

This talk discusses the early history of radio and ultra-wideband antenna development from the days of spark gaps to the present. The main them is trace general trends in antennna development, as well as to show how lack of familiarity with antenna history has lead designers to rediscover designs already known in the art. Dr. Schantz is a consulting engineer with Next-RF, Inc. specializing in electromagnetics and high performance antenna design. Dr. Schantz is also Chief Scientist with The Q-Track Corporation, a Huntsville based start-up company pioneering a novel wireless positioning and tracking technology: near field electromagnetic ranging.
