Chair’s Corner
Hello Everyone,
The first month has gone very well. I have spoken to a few people who are interested in getting involved. Several activities have been developing this month. Our educational activities will be very active over the next few months. Our newly appointed Robotics Committee Chair, Robert Robinson, has been actively working with the UAH IEEE Student Branch and the UAH classroom robotics projects in preparation for the Southeast Conference 2005 (SECON05).
In this and coming LiveWire issues, we are introducing the section officers. In this issue, Willie Fitzpatrick, Vice Chair and Frank Parris, Member at Large are profiled. We are very fortunate to have both of them on our committee. Frank has been the educational activities chair and has helped coordinate the Science Fair judging, MATHCOUNTS and Alabama Council for Technology in Education (ACTE). Willie has been our Secretary for the past two years and has participated in educational activities. Both also helped with our 50th Anniversary Celebration last year.
Engineer’s Week 2005 (http://www.eweek.org) is February 20-26. The ASME is hosting this year’s E-Week Banquet on Tuesday, February 22, 2004. See the announcement in this issue. Also, the Technology Exposition for Advancing Multi-Market Solutions (TEAMS) is just around the corner, so make plans to attend during the week of March 28th through April 1st. It is also a pleasure to announce the Tri-Service Waveform Diversity Workshop with an invitation from Dr. Bob McMillan. Dr. McMillan is a local IEEE Fellow, and served as Chairman of the 2003 IEEE Radar Conference here in Huntsville.
The IEEE Huntsville Section is still looking for volunteers. One particular opportunity is that of a Publicity Chair. We are looking for a person to help promote awareness of the Section’s activities. Our section has several chapters within the section itself, which holds regular meetings. The Publicity Chair’s job is to help get the word of these meetings out to Huntsville IEEE members.
Now that Tax Season is here, I included a couple of useful links. Also, the Detroit Auto Show was held in January and I thought some of you might be interested in some of the new concepts in car design; I know I am.
Sincerely,
Keith Jadus
