Abstract: In 1991 at the OOPSLA conference, Chidamber and Kemerer proposed the first well-known metrics suite for object-oriented software. Since then, a large number of additional metrics have been proposed by many different researchers. Additionally, several statistical studies have been performed to analyze these metrics. Which metrics are the best metrics to use? What kinds of metrics tools are available? What ranges of metrics values are acceptable? In this talk, Dr. Letha Etzkorn will describe the current state of the art in object-oriented software metrics. She will discuss issues involved with establishing a software metrics program employing these metrics.

Biographical Sketch: Letha Hughes Etzkorn is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Huntsville, AL. Her current primary research interests are in the area of software engineering, with emphasis on object-oriented software metrics, program understanding, and client/server architectures. Previous employment prior to joining the university includes Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc., and Motorola Transmission Products Division, where she was a Senior Design Engineer involved primarily in the development of real time systems and computer networking software/firmware. Her primary interests were in wide area network protocols, including the X.25 protocol, and in modem protocols such as V.42. She has published numerous papers in the areas of object-oriented software metrics, program understanding, and software reuse, among other areas. She has a B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and an M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is a registered Professional Engineer.
