Chairman’s Corner

Hello Everyone,

Last month, the Alabama Science & Engineering Fair was held and was a great success. The IEEE Huntsville Section gave savings bonds to the winners of Special Awards and the students were all excited. I want to give a special thanks to Frank Parris, our Educational Activities Chair, and to his committee for taking the time out of their busy schedules to judge these deserving students. See the detailed article with photos of the events.

Well, I am glad the cold weather is behind us and the summer is coming quickly. We have many things in store for you as the summer months are approaching.

The EMC Chapter continues to hold monthly technical meetings and they have been received very well amongst their peers. Feel free to drop in on their next meeting on May 20th at the ADTRAN facility. See the detailed article for more information.

The GOLD affinity group is hosting a night at the Stars game on May 15. For more information see the detailed article.

I want to get some feedback from everyone interested in organizing a Professional Engineering (PE) Exam Preparation training course. I have had a few people express an interest, now I need at least 15 people who would like to form a group. If I get enough response from the Section, then we will take the proper steps to host a course here locally. Since there are currently no courses in the area or at our local educational institutions, then I feel that this would be a great benefit to our members if our Section organized this course.

If you have any other ideas or technical interests that you think may be beneficial to our members, then let us know. If you would like to get involved and help us further serve the technical community, please contact me at Sonya.L.Hutchinson@nasa.gov

Thanks,
Sonya Hutchinson
