Chairman’s Corner

Hello Everyone,

We have started off the 2004-year with a BANG! It's already March and we have completed major milestones. We just kicked off our 50th Year Anniversary Banquet at the Von Braun Center (Click here for a detailed article about the evening). We also had tremendous fun during our 5K Walk / Run on the campus of UAH. The students really helped us put some pep in our step. (Click here for the article about this event). It was a blast and I'm sure that everyone would agree with me.

Now to tackle the next quarter of this year. We have several things in store for our members. Two representatives from our section will be attending the IEEE-USA Leadership Workshop in Atlanta, Georgia on March 19-21, 2004. Here they will learn and bring back new ways to increase the membership benefits in the areas of the Professional Activities Committee (PACE) and the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Committee. So stayed tuned for upcoming programs in these areas.

Next, we have several meetings tentatively scheduled with our new chapter, the Electromagnetic Compatibility Chapter (EMC). These engineers convene at the Adtran facility. Anyone who is interested in this field should definitely get involved with their technical exchanges, and upcoming meetings. If you would like to get more information about our newest chapter, please email Paul Stover at paul.stover@adtran.com (Click here for more information on the next meeting.)

In March we will be participating in the North Alabama Regional Science & Engineering Fair, which will be held at Calhoun Community College. In April, we will be judging and awarding savings bonds at the Alabama Science & Engineering Fair, which will be held on the campus of UAH. Stay tuned for photos and winner announcements in the April and May LiveWires.

As you can see, our section is quite busy these days and we sure could use other volunteers to help us fulfill our goals. If you want to lend a helping hand and get involved with our section's activities, then please contact me at Sonya.L.Hutchinson@nasa.gov.

Thanks,
Sonya Hutchinson
