Subject: Your help is needed - JCAM officers for 2004

Message:

JCAM (Joint Communications, Antenna and Propagation, and Microwave Theory and Techniques) needs the support of the local members of the IEEE Communications, Antenna and Propagation, and Microwave Theory and Techniques Societies. We are rapidly approaching the end of the year when it is required that the IEEE chapters have their elections. JCAM is an opportunity for professionals of similar interest to share technical ideas, get information, and network. It cannot perform these functions without support from the IEEE membership.

The chapter has been operating with only a single officer, which is less than the Huntsville Section's by-laws dictate. Unfortunately, I, the current chair, cannot continue to serve as the chapter chair due to other commitments and because of stipulations in the by-laws. I can serve as Secretary, supporting a new chapter chair. In order for the chapter to continue and to grow, we need support from IEEE members in good standing in the previously stated societies. Please read the information about elections below and consider how you can help JCAM.

The JCAM elections are going to be performed as follows:

1. A "Call for Nominations" for all elected offices to the general chapter membership. Every reasonable effort will be made to recommend a minimum of two (but no more than three) qualified members for each office. Nominees must be presently in good standing with one of the three affiliated societies and have indicated their willingness to serve.

2. A slate of nominees shall be e-mailed and provision made in the communication for receipt of petition candidates for these offices on November 21. Appropriate biographical information and position statements shall be included.

3. Ballots are to be received back by December 14.

4. The votes will be tallied and the results announced first to the candidates, and then E-mailed by January 7. The election results will also be announced at the following JCAM meeting.

At this time, please submit your nominations for JCAM Chair and Secretary. The chapter needs your support in participating in these elections and nominating willing candidates for officers. The following is a slate of nominees for the JCAM officers and the biographical sketch of the sole, default nominee. Please take time to consider nominating any willing candidate associated with one of the three societies that you think would serve well as a JCAM officer.

1) Name: Mark A. Barnes

Nominator: By default, serving as candidate until nomination for officer is made.
Brief Biography: Received a B.S.E.E. degree in 1989 and a M.S.E.E. degree in 1991, both from the Ohio State University. He was a graduate research associate at the ElectroScience Laboratory working on ultra-wideband (UWB) radars and antennas. From 1992 to the beginning of 2002, he worked at Time Domain Corporation in a wide variety of roles primarily focused on research and development of UWB communication systems and radar systems. From February 2002 to the present, he has been working at XonTech, Inc. as a radar analyst. He is inventor on several patents and has authored many technical papers. He served a short terms as JCAM Secretary and has served as JCAM chair for the past year and a half.
