Auburn's prestigious college of Engineering is recognized throughout the United States as a world-class program and continues to lead the State of Alabama in engineering education with more than 50 percent of all undergraduate degrees conferred and 40 percent of graduate degrees.
The College of engineering enrolls more than 4,000 students who are pursuing bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in eight engineering disciplines. Non-thesis master's degrees are also offered for students who meet the admissions requirements in the following disciplines: Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science and Software, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Materials, and Mechanical Engineering.
Because of its size, depth and expertise, the College offers technical knowledge to companies and engineers through the Graduate Outreach Program. It presently provides more than 200 engineers the flexibility necessary to continue their education without leaving their jobs or changing lifestyles.
Master of engineering degrees are non-thesis programs without residency requirements. Each candidate must pass a two-hour on-campus, comprehensive oral examination covering major and minor subjects including any research or special projects involved.
The Graduate Outreach Program contributes to Auburn's reputation by combining traditional instruction with modern delivery methods to offer education opportunities beyond the campus. This distance learning program provides individuals the opportunity to pursue a master's degree in Business or Engineering at home or work while continuing full-time employment. The Graduate Outreach Program (GOP) allows the student to enhance their education/professional credentials without disrupting their career or relocating their family. Simply stated, the Graduate Outreach Program is flexible, videotape or computer based delivery of traditional on campus graduate programs. As an outreach student, they receive the same lectures, assignments and professors as our on-campus students. The admissions process, performance expectations and degrees received are identical to those of on-campus non-thesis graduate students.
The Business and Engineering Continuing Education Office (BECE) also develops and supplies Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors convenient, reasonable priced courses on videotape, CD-Rom, and the web that meet their state's requirements for CEUs. Coupled with our standing as a fully accredited university and a leader in this area, our programs have been widely accepted, as more states require continuing education for registered engineers and surveyors.
BECE will work the individual companies to design a business or engineering course specifically tailored to meet the needs of their professionals. The Business Professional Development (BPD) offers business training and experience for individuals who are or will be advancing into positions requiring general management knowledge or those who find it necessary to update their business skills and techniques. The courses can be delivered by video, CD-Rom or on-site. Participants complete the course without commuting to campus.
