SouthEastCon02

The weekend of April 5th to 7th was exciting in the Embassy Suites at Columbia, SC because of SouthEastCon02. There was a student competition that went on all day and night on Saturday. The competition involved the IEEE Robot Competition, which this year featured mechanical robots that played Pong. The format for this game of Pong was there was a game board sloped on each side from the center. On each end of the board was a robot from one of the schools participating (there were 28). A ball was released onto one side of the board. A camera mounted above the game board was used by both teams’ robots to track the ball. The robots then had to knock the ball back across the board to the other side. This was not easy, each time a new game was played, the schools had a fixed amount of time to set up their equipment and calibrate their robots. The schools battled it out from 8:00AM until after 10:00PM, when the winner was declared. Silver Streak, UAH’s robot (see photo) faired well during the competition.
