IEEE Published New Wireless Personal Area Network Standard
P802.15.1 D0.9.2 Draft Standard for Part 15.1: Wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) specifications for Wireless Personal Area Networks TM (WPANs TM) 2001 Project scope: To define PHY and MAC specifications for wireless connectivity with fixed, portable and moving devices within or entering a Personal Operating Space (POS). Project purpose: To provide a standard for low complexity, low power consumption wireless connectivity to support interoperability among devices within or entering the POS. This includes devices that are carried, worn, or located near the body. The proposed project will address Quality of Service to support a variety of traffic classes.
IEEE Published New LAN/MAN Standard

IEEE-USA Sponsors Science and Engineering Scholarship Fund
IEEE-USA and 36 technical and scientific societies representing more than one million members have joined together in sponsoring the Science and Engineering Scholarship Fund. Financially needy dependents of both domestic and foreign victims of the terrorist attacks on 11 Sept. can rely on the fund to help them pursue science and engineering degrees at U.S. colleges and universities. The American Physical Society is coordinating the initiative as part of a larger effort, the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, led by former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.
