Chairman’s Corner

Section Activities

The students at UAH have planned a great technical meeting on 13 November at 7 PM at the Engineering Bldg, room 258. The topic will be Micro UAVs, by Mike Pittruzello of the Aviation and Missile Command's Research, Development and Engineering Center. Mike is one of RDEC's smartest engineers, and a heck of a nice guy. No need for reservations for this meeting, just come!

As we are getting closer to the end on the year, we need to start planning more of our administrative activities and start planning for the upcoming year. First, our General Membership Meeting (our one yearly social) is scheduled for December 12th at the Fogcutter restaurant at 6:30 PM. Please mark your calendars and join us. At this meeting we will also hold the election for next year's Section Officers. For reservations, please contact Sonya Hutchinson at 544-3312 or by e-mail at sonya.hutchinson@ieee.org.

We are helping Dr. Alexander Poularikas and the ECE Dept of UAH with a terrific conference: Advances in Signal Processing for Military Applications , coming up 14 & 15 October 2002 at the Marriott hotel. We are announcing the Call For Papers, and expect a turn-away crowd (it will be limited to 120 attendees). For more information, please contact Alex Poularikas at UAH

The Section is also actively involved in the preparations for the AUTOTESTCON 2002. If you are interested in helping with the AUTOTESTCON planning, please contact Pat Griffin by e-mail at pat.griffin@teradyne.com.

We are also starting to plan for the upcoming 2003 RADARCON. If you are interested in helping with the planning, please contact Dr. Bob McMillan at 955-5418 or by e-mail at bob.mcmillan@smdc.army.mil.

Future of the IEEE

Once again it is time to plan for IEEE's Annual Election. I am sure that you have already received you election ballots in the mail. With the current affairs that have been in the news for the past few weeks, the IEEE election is probably not the most important thing on your mind. Please take the time to review each candidate's statements and then vote. Please remember that headquarters must receive all ballots by noon, 1 November 2001.
