CALL FOR PAPERS
for the

The 8th IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium
(NOMS 2002)

April 15-19 2002

Florence, Italy

The symposium is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society's Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM), with technical co-sponsorship from the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 6.6 on Network Management.

NOMS and the IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM) are the premier technical conferences in the area of network and systems management and operations. Held in the even-numbered years since 1988, NOMS 2002 will continue the well-established tradition of NOMS and IM as the primary forum for technical exchanges for the research, standards, development, systems integrator, service providers, and user communities. Following this symposium's theme "Management Solutions for the New Communications World", NOMS 2002 will present the latest approaches and technical solutions in the area of network operations and management. An exciting, peer-reviewed program of technical sessions, tutorials, and vendor exhibits will address the ever-increasing interest in overall management solutions for all types of communications and computing networks, systems, services and enterprise applications.

Authors are invited to submit technical papers, as well as proposals for tutorials, panel discussions, poster presentations, and birds-of-a-feather sessions (informal discussion groups) in the following suggested topic areas:

Other topics relevant to management are also welcome. We particularly encourage papers from industry on case studies and experiences that emphasize lessons learned.

Technical Papers and Posters Papers are to be written in English. Submissions for the paper sessions must include full, unpublished papers, which are not under review in any other conference or journal. They should not exceed 12 single-spaced pages. Submissions for the poster program should contain an extended abstract of 3-5 pages. All submissions will be carefully reviewed by at least three experts and returned to the author(s) with comments to ensure high quality. The final papers and poster descriptions will be included in the widely distributed, hardbound Symposium Proceedings published by IEEE. ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION IS REQUIRED. Authors are requested to submit papers and poster contributions in PDF or Postscript format via the Web. Submission instructions, which can be found at www.noms.org/2002/submission.html.

Specific questions regarding the technical program should be directed to one of the Technical Program Co-Chairs:
