Lessons I learned as IEEE Student Branch President 2000-01

by Tina Ellson

  1. A true "leader in charge" leads the charge of others to their successes.
  2. Compassion and care are two powerful things some leaders overlook, and pass on as weaknesses.
  3. A leader possesses NOT his own power, but the power of those he empowers.
  4. To rise above adversity means to bring the cause of your adversity along with you to the top.
  5. A crash course in "Time Management" can never hurt sometime in your lifetime.
  6. A leader's patience is a necessity, not a virtue. Understanding a must, not an option.
  7. A leader leads best with a clear conscience.
  8. Inclusive of the IEEE leadership: A past leader helps his successor to succeed.
  9. One cannot lead in fear. A leader must be able to execute unpopular decisions for the best interests of the organization and members without fear for his popularity.
  10. A smile is a good opening remark, and a good closing remark.
